The Cove Director Wins Directors Guild Award
I don't want this to seem like I am taking credit for the win, but I do have to say, "I told you so!."
Louie Psihoyos won the Directors Guild of America, on Saturday in the Best Director of a Documentary category. When I saw this film for the first time, I knew that it was something different, and not just because it had animal rights as a central theme. This movie in intriguing on many levels, but especially from the standpoint of it bringing a good, suspenseful story, great characters and just enough techno-effects together into one nicely paced documentary to keep all viewers happy. This film re-establishes what a documentary can strive to become. In other words, you don't have to be boring or poorly made or lack a central driving theme to be a documentary. Bravo to the Cove, to Psihoyos and to the Guild for picking this one out of the herd (or pod in this case).
