Day One
Well this is really only day one of the blog: Rites of Spring really started some 35 years ago when I myself was a teenager and later on became a playwright and now a screenwriter slash director. The screenplay for ROS began in earnest a few years ago and is now on its 12th major rewrite and I really have to thank Peter Mellencamp in L.A. and Jen Frankel from Toronto who have worked with me as consultants and given so much of their time and expertise in writing for the screen.
I plan to bring this script to a somewhat maybe almost final draft in the very very early New Year. At that time I will send it to Judith Weston not only for coverage but to get help in breaking the script down and refining my thoughts and ideas in directing. I'd love to say I am a student of Judith's but recourses and geography make that very difficult but I have read her books, adore and respect her for her skill knowledge and inspiration and in that I can at least say I am a disciple.
Rites of Spring is certainly my baby and true to that I love it more than anyone else can but I hope it can go beyond that, that people will share in my passion for it and work with me to bring if off the page. Sometimes the big screen is way way up there.
